John King is running for Sonoma County Supervisor to bring strong, accountable leadership to county government. With decades of experience and a proven record of advocacy, he has taken action to protect Sonoma County’s land, water, and communities—and is ready to do the same as Supervisor.
John comes from a long line of Sonoma County farmers, continuing a four-generation legacy of working the land and contributing to the local agricultural community.
John King is a fourth-generation Sonoma County farmer and lifelong Penngrove resident who has spent decades protecting the land, water, and communities that define our region. Growing up in an agricultural community shaped his strong work ethic and deep respect for the resources that support local families and businesses.
He has spent most of his life living and working in Sonoma County, giving him firsthand insight into the need to protect farmland, manage growth responsibly, and preserve the character of our communities. John works as an operating engineer in construction and is a proud union member, bringing real-world experience to the challenges facing Sonoma County today.
His background includes public accounting, auditing, high-wealth tax, railroads, commercial lending, construction, and organic farming—along with advocacy work to protect Sonoma County’s groundwater and agricultural land, and he has already proven he'll take action when it matters.
John shares his family's farming heritage with photos of the baling crew taken in 1933 near Adobe Road outside of Petaluma and Penngrove.
Taken in 1944 in Polebrook, England, this photo shows the B-17 bomber crew that included John King’s father, Staff Sergeant David M. King (back row, far right). As the flight engineer and top turret gunner, he completed 33 bombing missions during World War II and was trained to fly the aircraft if the pilot or co-pilot were injured. He was awarded both the Presidential Citation and the Air Medal for his service.
John remembers his father as a man of integrity, humility, and deep love for this country. His example of service and quiet strength left a lasting impression—one that continues to shape John’s values, his sense of responsibility, and his commitment to the community he calls home.
It is in his memory that John salutes all the men and women who have served and continue to serve the wonderful United States of America.
John earned a degree in Business Economics from UC Santa Barbara and built a career serving businesses across Sonoma County.
Water is one of Sonoma County’s most critical resources, and John King has taken action to protect it. When groundwater supplies were threatened by overdevelopment, he successfully challenged over-pumping through legal action—bringing countywide attention to the risks and pushing for stronger protections of local water resources.
That work helped highlight the importance of protecting groundwater recharge areas and ensuring future development does not come at the expense of Sonoma County’s long-term water supply.
After successfully winning a groundwater lawsuit in 2002, John King was invited to the Governor’s office to present on the issue—bringing Sonoma County’s concerns to the state level and pushing for stronger protections and accountability in water management—and proving he’s willing to take a fight all the way when it matters.
His work helped elevate the conversation around groundwater sustainability and reinforced the importance of holding development accountable to protect local resources.
Sonoma County is facing important decisions about growth, environmental protection, public safety, and the future of our communities.
Sonoma County needs leadership that listens to residents, takes action, and gets results.
John is running to help ensure Sonoma County remains a place where families, farmers, and local businesses can thrive for generations to come. "Sonoma County is truly at a fork in the road, who you elect matters."
